The year was 2006. I had just finished my fourth year of architecture school and was met with an opportunity to live for the summer in San Diego for an internship. I would be joining a couple classmates who had worked at the firm in previous summers. Kyle, one of the two, decided to join me on an epic journey across this expansive country. We picked a friend of mine up in Chicago and pushed onward.
We covered a huge amount of the country as we traversed West and East again, eight days each. We didn’t have GPS, just a $5.00 US atlas from Wal-Mart and a handful of Map Quest print-outs. We planned as many cities as we could find, added a few impromptu destinations (we were “only” six hours away from Mount Rush more..each way..but hey, no biggie). The travel and living in San Diego was an immensely rewarding experience that I look back on often.
