The South Florida Voyage
When we got our boat in the Fort Lauderdale boat show in 2005, we knew it would only be in Florida for a limited time before we took it to it’s home in Maryland, docked in a river that leads to the Chesapeake Bay. I had over a month off from school between fall and spring semesters, so the we packed a U-haul trailer, filled the SUV and headed on an 1100 mile journey. At 55mph due to the tiny trailer tires. When we finally arrived, we dropped all of the boxes in the boat and set off for our adventure.
We hopped down the coast, making it to Key West in time for New Years. We continued around the keys up to Naples, where we entertained a handful of my step-dad’s clients before cutting over to the enormous lake Okeechobee. A handful of locks took us to the largest freshwater lake in the US, excluding the Great Lakes, of course. We finally exited into the Atlantic again, and booked it down the coast to Lauderdale. Just to put the “E” in epic, we got back in the car and headed North to Virginia. Without a doubt the most memorable Christmas break to date.
